In Mafia Ties, King uses his experiences as the foundation to illustrate how drugs and drug-related crimes play a factor in the urban community. He presents real life encounters that force individuals to choose life over death. Some may interpret his use of Southern street slang as broken English or grammatically incorrect. However, this is a style to which many young readers can relate. Using this dialect immerses the reader deeply in the culture and will compel them to dig deeper as to gain understanding.
WHO AM I? ... I study my reflection in the mirror and ask, an unbreakable soul a heart so cold, on my face a mask a true G I'm the last. A strong minded man who will give his life for the ones he love, a voice so strong it's respected by thugs. Fire in my eyes and my kids my motivation, a smooth criminal with a life of complications. Loyalty is what I stand on the streets is where I come from. The weight of the world on my shoulders, never losing my composure, complex like a rubric cube and yet as cool as ice, saluted by the ones you fear and loved by the ones you don't like. My pain runs deep but my faith runs deeper, hated by the ones I loved and framed like Judas did Jesus. They say I am the voice of the people yet a monster or a creature, maybe their leader to the thugs I'm a teacher to the slums I'm their hero for sticking to the G code for never selling my soul, never bend break or fold. A head with no crown but it's not what it may seem, if you ask who i am? I'll reply I am the KING OF KINGS!!!
I love this book. I read the whole thing in one day at work. I just want to know, was it a start of something great for Don?
